A stress echo study is used to help diagnose and plan the management of patients with coronary artery disease. During the study either exercise or a drug is used to increase the work done by the heart and ultrasound is used to determine how the heart reacts. Images obtained at rest are compared with those taken when the heart is under stress. This can provide information about blockages in the heart arteries or problems with the valves of the heart.
