Coronary artery bypass graft surgery
A Consultant may recommend this treatment if the coronary angiogram has revealed severe narrowings in one or more of the coronary arteries and where it is not possible to treat the condition with either medications or angioplasty/stenting. It involves open-heart surgery where blood vessels taken from the legs, chest or forearm are used to bypass the narrowed or blocked arteries. It is a highly proven and effective treatment for severe coronary artery disease, can be life-saving in some instances and will usually significantly improve or completely alleviate angina and other related symptoms.
The Cardiologist will discuss this procedure in detail following a coronary angiogram but the operation itself will be performed in London by a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon. Our Cardiologists work closely with a number of surgeons and can recommend and refer our patients to one of these highly experienced professionals.
