Derek Harrington has lived and worked in the Tunbridge Wells area for over 20 years and set up West Kent Cardiology Partnership with Clive Lawson in 2006.
Derek trained in Cardiology at St Thomas’ Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital in London and is an NHS Consultant Cardiologist based at the Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury. He also works at King’s College Hospital in London where he undertakes complex interventional procedures. He is a general cardiologist with broad experience in all aspects of cardiovascular disease. His main interest is the management of coronary artery disease and he has extensive experience in invasive and interventional procedures including coronary angiography and coronary intervention (‘stenting’). He also has interests in the management of heart failure and congenital heart disease in adults.
Derek has been involved in the support and development of medical trainees for over 15 years. He was previously sub-dean for the GKT school of medicine and has since 2012 been the Senior Training Programme Director for the Kent, Surrey, Sussex cardiology higher specialist training programme. He is the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) Vice President for Finance and Corporate Development and is a BCS board member and trustee. He also leads appraisal and revalidation for all of the medical staff at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
Away from work, Derek is an avid (and very competitive) cyclist.
